The core target for the CPC’s self-governance is to enable itself to shoulder the historic mission of leading the Chinese nation to realize a great rejuvenation. Therefore, since its founding day, the CPC has been building itself into a party capable to lead China’s revolution, development and reform. This is also the basic logic for the CPC’s consideration on Party-building. In the revolutionary era, the CPC, in order to lead Chinese revolution to victory, proposed to “build a nationwide, massive, Bolshevistic communist Party of China which is completely consolidated in ideology, politics and organization.” After the general establishment of socialism, the CPC definitely pointed out that “it is impossible to have no proletarian dictatorship in our socialist undertaking. And the proletarian dictatorship is realized through its Party, the communist Party” and “the Party should and can play the leading role to every work in ideology, politics, guidelines and policies.” Having entered the new reform and opening-up period, the CPC brought forward that the Party should take the lead in the reform and modernization and be the leading core of the great undertaking of socialism with Chinese characteristics while setting up the basic principle of economic development as the center of all work. 中国共产党是中国的执政党，在推动中国经济、政治、文化、社会、生态等各方面发展进步中发挥着关键性作用。了解了中国共产党，也就在很大程度上了解了当代中国。 The CPC is the governing party of China and has played a vital role in promoting the development of China’s economy, politics, culture, society and ecology. To a great extent, understanding the CPC means understanding contemporary China.
