"W.默瑞 (W. Murray) , 英国教育专家和语言学家。从事儿童教育数十年，终其一生为儿童工作，在儿童早期阅读研究领域成果丰硕。在当时的英国，很多孩子存在读写障碍问题。为此，默瑞先生开始着手简化儿童学习阅读的方法。 20世纪50年代，默瑞先生与曼彻斯特大学的教育心理学家麦克纳利通过研究发现，英语日常使用频繁的单词只有20,000个，而日常的对话、写作等应用中，人们只会用到这20,000个单词中很少的一部分。这些词被命名为""关键词（key words）""。key words在绘本和分级读物里面经常出现，认识它们，能大大减少孩子在阅读过程中的障碍。如果孩子掌握了key words，阅读的过程就会容易的多，再加上对英文单词拼读规则的了解，就能顺利开始初级的自主阅读。从研究到写作，这个过程前前后后经历了十多年，也奠定了这套书在英语学习方面的重要地位。 "
